Internxt Drive Becomes First Cloud Storage with Post-Quantum Encryption

The future of secure cloud storage is beginning to change rapidly as developments in quantum computing increase; these powerful computers will have the power to break the current encryption technologies your current cloud providers are using.

That's the reason cloud service provider, Internxt, is preparing for the future of private cloud storage before it’s too late.

Internxt is the first cloud storage with post-quantum cryptography.

Internxt and Post-Quantum Cryptography | Internxt Blog
Internxt is the first private cloud storage provider to implement post-quantum cryptography, the most secure & advanced way to protect your data.

Having recently released post-quantum cryptography for Internxt Drive, Internxt is the first cloud storage provider to achieve this landmark in online privacy.

Why post-quantum cryptography matter?

First, understand the power of quantum computing. Take the example of Google’s quantum chip, Willow. The quantum power of this chip solved a problem that would take a conventional supercomputer around 10 septillion (10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) years to solve.

With this kind of computing power, traditional encryptions like AES-256 do not stand a chance.

This is why NIST developed post-quantum cryptography to create algorithms that are resistant to quantum computers, protecting key industries such as financial, healthcare, governments, and cloud storage against cyberattacks.

To future-proof your files and data, Internxt released PQE (Post-Quantum Encryption) for Internxt Drive (cloud storage product). The best thing is that you don't need to pay extra or opt for a special plan. It is available on all plans.

Couple PQE with zero-knowledge encryption (data is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded to the cloud server), and you have a solid secure cloud storage where even the service provider cannot access your files.

At the time of writing this article, I am not aware of any other consumer-facing cloud storage services offering post-quantum encryption.

Getting Internxt

You can get Internxt lifetime cloud storage from the link below:

You get 80% off the lifetime plans exclusively created for It's FOSS readers by using code itsfoss80 at checkout.

Yeah, I know. Even I am not a fan of courses, VPNs and cloud services offering these 'ZZ% off kind of deals'. But that's a marketing strategy many services follow.

You get 1TB to 5TB of encrypted suit with cloud storage, VPN, Mail, Meet, and Antivirus for a single payment, with no monthly or annual recurring fee. They also have a 30-day money-back policy, so if you do not like the service, you can get a full refund within the first 30 days of purchase.

And that's what I like. No subscription, single payment and if I don't like the service, I get all my money back. Perfect for trying a new service.

I have their 2 TB lifetime storage option that I use as the second backup for my photos and videos. The first copy is saved on my local network, powered by ZimaCube.

More than just a cloud storage

Internxt has come a long way since its inception as a web3-focused, decentralized storage to a quantum safe encrypted storage. They are also expanding their privacy ecosystem with premium VPN and email service planned for this year. Now, that would be exciting. Watch out Proton!

The best thing is that all these 'additional offerings' are bundled with the cloud storage plan you opt for.

Internxt Plans
  1. Essential - 1TB - Antivirus - Backups - 1 Location VPN (FR) - No Meet - No Mail - CLI/WebDav/Rclone - Unlimited VPN Traffic - Ultra Fast VPN Speeds - Zero-knowledge Encryption - Post-Quantum Encryption
  2. Premium - 3TB - Antivirus - Backups - 3 Locations VPN (FR, DE, PL) - Meet 3 pax - 3 Email addresses @internxt.com - CLI/WebDav/Rclone - Unlimited VPN Traffic - Ultra Fast VPN Speeds - Zero-knowledge Encryption - Post-Quantum Encryption
  3. Ultimate - 5TB - Antivirus - Backups - 5 Locations VPN (FR, DE, PL, CA, UK) - Meet 5 pax - 5 Email addresses @internxt.com - CLI/WebDav/Rclone - Unlimited VPN Traffic - Ultra Fast VPN Speeds - Zero-knowledge Encryption - Post-Quantum Encryption

I let you explore Internxt and take advantage of their bundled, lifetime plans.

Thanks for the article, I decided to give them a try and although the Drive isn't perfect, it works well enough for me at the moment, but the VPN is perfect!

I joined on a lifetime 1Tb plan and have not been impressed by the speed of synchronisation nor the fact the that their 'support' is hopeless because they take days to respond on their messenger-type chat window, if at all and there is no ticketing system on their website. For a Linux engineer, I cannot use rsync so tried rclone and its generating errors synchronising and it very very slow. If I ever get a refund I'll look around for another provider. I requested my account to be closed and refunded several days ago and all I got was an attempt to 'upsell' their product. I re-stated that I wanted a refund but no response since! AVOID IMHO

Hello,

I work at Internxt. Apologies for the delay in support contacting you, we are working to issue your refund. As we get a lot of tickets and we have a small team, you may experience a small delay in response times.

Thanks.

Would be good as I've now raised this with my payment provider, but how would you know which account on Internxt I am talking about ?
I'm also interested as to why there are a lot of tickets ?

I don't know which account you are talking about, but this was the only recent ticket with the problem that fits the timeline. Tickets can be for a variety of things as is the case with all companies.

Thanks for the article. I just took advantage of your discount code to get a 1Tb scheme. Installed the deb package for the internxt drive. Tried to use rsync to push to the internxt mounted drive but get errors " failed to set times on..." and "Function not implemented (38)" which suggest that the file system on the mount does not support rsync (fuse?). I tried contacting internxt via chat bot window and await their response after the weekend. Differential pushes using rsync is a must for me.

Hello,

Please be advised that currently we do not offer an integration with rcync and therefore you might be having issues. You can applmage package instead of .deb. Our support team also mentioned they contacted you with the same information. In the near future the integration will be available, thanks for your request.
Warm regards,
Internxt team

That's a valid concern. Let me reach out to them and see what can be done about rsync.

FWIW I also tried rclone but got loads of sync errors and was appallingly slow.

Unfortunately, their data storage service doesn't provide any guarantees against data corruption. They focus on other projects and can't create one service well. They changed the file size limit for a specific system and then said they would refund the money, which was many times less than the effects of data corruption. The service will be worth it only if there is a guarantee against data corruption (which they do not provide).

Hello,

I'm from Internxt, none of our users have experienced any kind of data corruption, and while we do have other products out, we still have a lot of focus on improving Drive by gaining customer feedback to fix as many bugs as possible in new releases, which is how the product has improved significantly over the past few months.

Thanks.
