Sony themselves felt they were exempt from copyright law when they decided to harass their customers with the now infamous rootkit. It turns out that the rootkit contains pieces of code that are identical to LAME, an open source mp3-encoder, and thereby breach the license. Who is counting as long as Celine Dion's stuff is protected.
