CentOS 6.0 was released this past summer over 240 days after the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0, for which the Linux operating system is based. Released yesterday evening was CentOS 6.1, which this time is only belated by 204 days compared to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1.

Karanbir Singh of the CentOS project announced CentOS 6.1 for i386 and x86_64 architectures on Friday evening. The release announcement can be found on the project's mailing list.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 has already been succeeded this week by Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2, for which is now the next CentOS target.

For those wondering about the other Red Hat Enterprise Linux derivatives, Scientific Linux 6.1 was released back in July while ClearOS 6.1 is still in development.
