Raspberry Pi Model A now on sale in Europe

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has announced that the $25 model of the mini-computer is now available for purchase in Europe. In contrast to its bigger brother, the Model B, the Raspberry Pi Model A does not included network connectivity, only features one USB port and is limited to 256MB of RAM. The Raspberry Pi Model A is available for approximately £19 from Premier Farnell / Element 14 and RS Components.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation says that there is currently a delay in the product being available outside of Europe due to some outstanding paperwork, but that those customers will be able to order the Model A "soon". Customers from the US will be able to purchase the mini-computer from Allied Electronics and Newark / Element 14.

Aside from being more affordable, the Model A is also said to consume only a third of the power of the fully fledged Model B. This makes it especially useful for situations where the device is powered from a battery, such as use in remote locations, and with solar cells. The Raspberry Pi Foundation is working on reducing the power consumption of the Model A even further by tweaking the device's software.
