Natural Selection 2 Is Getting Closer To Linux Debut
The Natural Selection 2 FPS/RTS game out of Unknown Worlds Entertainment is getting closer to its Steam-powered Linux debut.
Natural Selection 2 is a popular combined first person shooter and real-time strategy game currently exciting Windows gamers since the official late 2012 launch. The developers behind the game have wanted Linux and OS X support for years, but not until now is that becoming a reality. NS2 is powered by the company's own in-house Spark engine and it's in the process of being supported under OS X and Linux while having Steamplay support.
In a new blog post, Unknown Worlds shares the state of the game's continued development. Natural Selection 2 is shown running on Linx Mint with the MATE desktop and then again on Ubuntu Linux with Unity. The blog posting notes, "They show that not only is Natural Selection 2 now running on Linux, we are even starting to successfully trial actual networked play. In theory, we could have connected Windows players to the same server. This does not mean we are about to release NS2 on Linux. But we are getting damn close. This is real, we are aiming for true SteamPlay Windows / Linux / Mac support. Max and Dushan are working full time on bringing this dream to fruition, and we can’t wait to share more progress with you over the coming weeks."
