The open source platform for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV)OPNFV Project, has received major backing from EMC and VMware. EMC joins as a Platinum member, along with others such as AT&T, Brocade, China Mobile, Cisco, Dell, Ericsson, HP, Huawei, IBM, Intel, Juniper Networks, NEC, Nokia Networks, DOCOMO, Red Hat, Telecom Italia, Vodafone and ZTE. VMware joins as a Silver member. 

According to OPNFV, both EMC and VMware are providing a deep ecosystem of solutions, technologies and partnerships that enable telcos to leverage NFV, big data and the cloud to transform their core networks. Paul To, director, Cloud & NFV, EMC, will join OPNFV's board of directors as well as the Technical Steering Committee. As part of its Platinum membership, EMC is dedicating additional employee resources to OPNFV to help build the reference platform for NFV.

The OPNFV project, a collaborative project at the Linux Foundation has todate gathered around 100 developers from service providers and commercial suppliers to collaborate on the development of a carrier-grade, integrated, open source flexible platform for NFV.
