Why Linux Continues to Evade Mainstream Users
Reading articles like this certainly make us feel good, but I have to say that they leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. While we run around patting each other on the back for a job well done on the adoption front, the truth is that most people, real computer users, not geeks, are using Windows. Does this mean that Linux is not ready? Not at all, but perhaps this means that what we feed to the public needs a fresh review?

Want to look to the real future of mass market adoption outside of the geek-set? Look to projects like Zonbu, Asus's Eee or the success seen with the Everex PCs powered by the Ubuntu variant, gOS. It was indeed, a mix of branded marketing with the stability of an open source OS that brought options like these into the public eye. And despite superstores like Best Buy, among others, that chose not to participate, we will still likely see more adoptions from the aforementioned efforts than with any community-based distribution among the mainstream user base.
