AUSTIN, TX March 1, 2005–Win4Lin, Inc., a leading supplier of virtual operating systems on Linux, today announced that they had begun quantity shipments of Win4Lin Pro™, their new flagship product. The shipping version of Win4Lin Pro fully delivers both the Windows 2000 Operating System and Windows 2000 applications on Linux as well as early support for Windows XP. The product is being offered at the introductory price of $99.99 until March 31, 2005. The company has committed to an aggressive update program that will include enhanced support for Windows XP.
Unlike The WINE Project, Win4Lin runs an existing copy of the Windows Operating System as a Linux process, therefore updates from Microsoft are seamlessly incorporated.
Using Win4Lin’s high performance virtual computing environment (VCE), Win4Lin Pro runs any Windows 2000 or Windows XP application with no change to the host operating system (e.g. no need to patch the Linux kernel). Win4Lin Pro runs as a Linux process, sharing the Linux memory and file system without yielding control to the Windows guest operating system. By running your existing copy of Windows, Win4Lin Pro is able to run hundreds of thousands of Windows applications without the need for porting, re-writing or enduring erratic behavior.

Win4Lin Product Family
Other products in the Win4Lin family include Win4Lin 9X™, Win4Lin Terminal Server™ and Win4Lin™ Home. Win4Lin 9X (formerly Win4Lin 5) provides migration support for enterprise users moving from Windows to Linux by allowing the execution of applications that cannot be ported to Linux (i.e. missing source code, too expensive) with full support for networked environments. Win4Lin Home is a lightweight version of Win4Lin 9X that provides the standalone or home user with the ability to run needed Windows applications (like Quicken® and TurboTax®) on Linux. Win4Lin Terminal Server is the company’s enterprise solution for delivering Windows applications on thin clients via a Linux server.
