What the typically malware hip-shooting O'Rilley's failed to do again is look at the whole picture. Next year, the state of Mass. will purchase 500,000 MIT-developed $100 laptops (low cost, specifically stated because they use Linux) and spread them among the students of their schools as a standard school item. Of course, it may also be O'Rilley's postion that the state shouldn't buy the laptops from the nonprofit Negroponte foundation for the students, in a vain attempt to keep his audience as technologically dumbed-down as he is. The state, it would seem, has faith not only in Open Document, but in Linux, and I'll bet their government begins to move in that direction, too. Unless Ballmer threatens to blow the state up or something, which, the way he's been acting lately, he could. |
