  I read the 3rd edition: great book, suitable even for a (committed) absolute linux newbie. The Linux Documentation Project has the best online books on Linux. O'Reilly's Running Linux is the best dead tree book. Period. PS It's expensive though.  |

  Agreed. This book (but this is typical of all O'Reilly efforts, IMHO) is also nicely edited and one can immediately understand that a lot of work went into it, unlike so many IT books. And this costs money.  |
