Netscape, Netscape Mail, textedit, Apache, spell, Xwindows, xloadimage, and I'm certain a hundred other tools that I've forgotten as they changed over the years, all made 1995 the year of the Linux Desktop for anyone who wasn't into Windows games. Oh, it's 11 years later and people are again (for the 11th time in my experience) calling it The Year Of The Linux Desktop? Just a couple of days ago I had to go to a Windows command line, to use one of the tools that Microsoft expropriated from BSD, in order to force Windows into doing the most simple of functions: an FTP from a closed FTP server. It is *WINDOWS* that is not ready for the desktop. |
