Falling behind? Pulling back? Puh-leaze!!!! Rate of adaption lower in the US. Sure, I can buy that. The problem is in the analysis, not in the US. The US was an early adaptor of IT, and computerized widely much earlier than the rest of the world. A lot of infrastructure was put in place before free solutions were even viable alternatives. It's not so much a matter of falling behind or pulling back as it is a matter of cost and inertia. It's always more risky and expensive to replace something that already works than it is to start something from scratch. I would bet the story looks different if you compare "green fields" to "green fields". |
