Sun's giving in to the pressure

I can't help it, but even if that turns out to be more than just another of vaporware announcements, it would still look like a desperate act by Sun, giving in to reality. Imho, Sun are scared. GNU classpath is making huge steps forward, half a dozen of free Java VM implementations plus the gnu java compiler actually make it possible to run decent versions of Java using free software implementations of VM, compiler and libraries already. Eclipse runs with Kaffe/GNU-classpath. Openoffice2 will do so soon, if it doesn't already. Sun's been loosing it for the last couple of years and now they're trying to turn the wheel around at the last minute. I'm not sure it will work out for them. |
