"turnkey" mail on unix without giving up freedom

You don't have to give up your freedom to have a "turnkey" mail solution on unix or linux. Citadel [http://www.citadel.org] has been providing exactly that for years. I'm surprised that more people don't know about this versatile and feature-packed groupware platform.

Heh, thanks for the heads up. Always good to be reminded of softwares that have slipped under the proverbial radar over the years. I vaguely remember looking at Citadel and thinking 'huh, I'll have to check that out.'.

And I need a new mailserver too. I smell a review coming on... :)

The Free version of OpenXchange is good too, though it lacks of bit polish. I never heard of Citadel, thanks for the link.
