I have a number of customers who are quite pleased with OpenOffice for reading incoming .DOC files & the like.

Don't try this with a design studio, they're too interested in finicky details; but for ordinary office stuff, it's fine.

The reverse is also true.

.DOC files made with OOo are perfectly usable, so if a customer or vendor demands DOC, they can get it from a OOo shop without skipping a beat.
