Billg's empire stands because so many people take his BS unquestioningly. Check out this page which is on a 100% pro-Windows site. It explains the ins and outs of Microsoft licensing for charitable organizations and businesses. They actually keep straight faces while telling how to sic the BSA on people, why you should be delighted to ride the never-stop-paying treadmill, and lather on the " Software Assurance" doubletalk, which means 're-license what you already paid for'. http://ts2community.com/blogs/kclarke/archive/2006/03/17/903...

Wow! I like this one:

QUESTION: There are actual, non-pirated versions of Microsoft software on eBay. As long as they're genuine, they're upgradable, correct?

ANSWER: No, eBay is not a recommended place to acquire Microsoft products. In fact, just this week Microsoft filed an additional round of lawsuits against resellers on eBay for distributing counterfeit and illegal Microsoft software (http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2006/mar06/03-15Law...). The BSA (http://www.bsa.org) has done extensive research on % of legal software on auction sites and found it to be almost never legitimate. You can read more about this on my Blog at: http://blogs.msdn.com/mssmallbiz/

It came from e-bay. Therefore, even if it is a rare legitimate copy, it ain't legitimate, and therefore is not upgradable. Gotta love it!
