Nice that he gives you the commands to remove Lilo, but if you intend to install a new distro, virtually all distros will reformat and install to the old partition. It will also install the new bootloader (hopefully grub).

I've heard debates both pro and con about that. Suffice it to say that it's nice that we have a choice.

What's the remaining case for lilo? I can't think of anything that couldn't be better done with grub now, and lilo makes a lot of things painful (e.g., Xen via lilo).

I'd have to go back and look at the original discussions, as I don't remember the details. Obviously, Patrick Volkerding seems to think there's some advantage to lilo, as it's still the default bootloader for Slackware (yes, grub is available).
