And there it goes, the mainstream press has started picking up on it. Even better reputed papers simply cannot resist parroting the press release: http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/tech/0,1518,461305,00.html It seems all that's important in computing today is involving the big playesr, winning races, achieving market share, protection, standardisation, preventing fragmentation, collecting patent pools and whatnot. Shuffled in some completely unfounded and unprovable statements like "the Linux community does this and that" implying that all this is soooo vital for Linux to succeed. And of course, there's no other important Free Software than Linux anyways, is there? Dear mainstream journalists, please attend a LUG meeting once or twice. This will make you understand much quicker than parroting big businesses' press releases. Perhaps we should set up a campaign. Not "Take Your b0fhl3t to 0rk"-Day but "Take A Clueless Person To A LUG Meeting"-Day. That'd be fun, ja? |
