Linspire's CNR could not only be quiet due to things mentioned in OSWeekly, but maybe also something related to the patent-covenant deal Xandros made with M$ this week.

Clearly note that Kevin Carmony has not made any major announcements about CNR or other notable Linspire developments since about the end of February -- the time-period less than four months after his initial outcry over the M$-Novell Patent Deal (see SVJN's http://www.linux-watch.com/news/NS5076631446.html)

The issue of CNR and Linspire's proprietary blobs was also discussed on LXer about a month before Carmony's last major announcements, see http://lxer.com/module/forums/t/24526/

I don't see what the two have to do with each other. Care to elaborate?

Anytime kevin carmony is quiet, you should be suspicious.

OTOH, Matt Hartley writes twaddle, so it's hardly worth getting excited about.

Actually, we ARE hearing from Kevin Carmony. See today's LXer 'New story! GPLv3 - Unforseen Consequences?'

From this story, Carmony seems to be casting a little FUD of his own on GPLv3. Might make sense given Linspire's inclusion of things like binary (not "proprietary") blobs, but still suspicious following as it does on the heels of the disappointing news of the MS-Xandros patent deal.

Funny how Carmony seems to all of a sudden encroach on this familiar theme of "interoperability for our customers' benefit".

hmm........ and just where have we seen something like this before in recent days?

But...

Why the heck wouldn't he be concerned about something that could torpedo his business?

He has invested a lot of time, effort and money to compete against Microsoft by making desktop Linux viable. Should he be happy about something that could cut his business off at the knees?

dino, businesses fail all the time, for all kinds of reasons. Then they like to blame something, someone. GPL3 and those awful hippies make convenient scapegoats- such a shame that people like Kevin Carmony are struggling so terribly hard to make money off other people's code, with such limited success. Linspire has been around for several years now without making much headway; if it goes under it won't be because of GPL3.

>f it goes under it won't be because of GPL3.

All well and good, but legitimate criticism of GPL3 and those awful hippies is still completely acceptable in my book.

' legitimate criticism of GPL3 and those awful hippies is still completely acceptable in my book.'

Of course, but that wasn't the point. The point was Carmony jumping on the "interoperability for our customers' benefit" and "GPL3 is evil" bandwagon. Look, you can't even see the strings!
