If there's one single topic to learn, its how to use regular expressions. Awk, Perl, Python, whatever. Once you know and can use them, there are so many occasions that seemed totally impossible before that now seem perfectly straightforward. If you are involved to any extent with migrations, sooner or later you'll have to extract your client's data from some disgustingly tied in proprietary file format, and regex makes it a snap. But my goodness, if you talk to anyone outside the field about this, are you made to feel like a total geek!
