Event sponsors, especially top sponsors, frequently help choose participants and panelists, get prferred and extra seating, and they often get preferred ad locations, banners, and program-giveaway stuffers. I can't tell you what the Sri Lanka sponsorship bought, but it *bought something*, you can bet. This is called reaching your demographic, and showing the flag. You've seen all the ads for Msoft on the Linux sites -- this is most likely an attempt at getting a word in edgewise rather than support. |
