Caveat: I'm a "Free Software" guy. On the other hand, I'm not an RMS fanboy. And on the other (?!?) hand, I love his operating sys ... er, editor. :-) I think this is fascinating. The history of all this has been fascinating. The nuances are fascinating. OSI wanted to come up with a way to make free software more palatable to business, so they downplayed the "freedom" aspect of it. Now, businesses have taken them on their word, ignored what the Open Source Definition really said, and call themselves Open Source. 'Sounds like an embarassment of riches on the OSI's part. Now, they're forced to back-peddle and slap around the offenders, and beg for community support for their efforts. Woops. RMS/FSF: 1, OSI: 0? Let freedom reign! |
