Gotta love the law of unintended consequences. Through no good will of their own, Darl and co. have given free software a great big wet one, right on the mouth. Their idiocy put IBM in the middle of Linux's IP credibility. Bad move for them, good move for us. Great big warning to Microsoft should it actually try walking the walk to match it's talk on patents. Add in a few other tidbits: 1. Recent Supreme Court ruling on contestability of patents, 2. Microsoft's defeat on OOXML 3. Surge of Firefox 4. EU decision against Microsoft and I think lots of concern over FOSS IP and viability goes up in smoke. |
