This is very useful indeed, but the motivation given is not enough:

I've been using ntfs-3g FUSE driver for many months without any problems, *including* write access. I can imagine needing to log into Windows only if the partition uses some as of yet unsupported features, like encryption (or compression?).

I thought I'd mention that, as a happy user :)

Of course you can use Linux, but this review may be more aimed at people who don't know how to use Linux to copy over their files; and therefore the writer only uses Linux for resetting the password.
