Windows 7 is based on the same code as Vista. Why would you expect different results than Vista when it comes to security? A consulting firm is posting commericals for a presentation at the local Microsoft office called "Safeguarding Your Work" by upgrading to Windows 7. It appeared on every tech related group for this area on LinkedIn. Maybe it's time for me to write an article pointing out that Windows 7 is a security nightmare, just like previous Windows versions. At least nowadays I can quote FBI Director Robert Mueller, a Washington Post article, etc... |

Wow, Microsoft preserves backwards compatibility in Windows 7 and everyone is bashing it. Proof that the naysayers will never ever give them credit for anything. |

> Proof that the naysayers will never ever give them credit for anything. Hey, it stopped 20% of the viruses. That's 20% better than any previous version of Windows would have done. See, it really is "the most secure version of Windows ever released". :) |

80% backwards compatibility is better than any previous version too! |

"'Backward Compatibility' Considered Harmful" In some quarters, that isn't news. |

@jdixon,
> Hey, it stopped 20% of the viruses. That's 20% better than
> any previous version of Windows would have done. Right. And that's at the present time. No guarantee (how could M$?) that "new" Winblow$ 7 -specific malware will bring the stoppable virus-rates back down. Maybe from 20% into the teens and single digits?? Dunno...... -fb |

> Proof that the naysayers will never ever give them credit for anything. Almost certainly. But I felt that I really should disprove tuxchick's statement, give Windows 7 the credit it was due, and admit that for once a Microsoft statement was true. :) |

And even switching to a Linux kernel and WINE won't fix it. The design itself is too weak. I guess that's the cost of security-as-an-afterthought. |
