Most people have already heeded the warning first time around. This is why we have gnucall, freedombox and the w3c speaking a 'decentralized, distributed web system'. Sadly, the web is dying a slow death--bandwidth caps, next tiers and even talk of licensing... Those against freedom are shutting it down and hopefully the above projects and those like them allow for what has been thus far a slightly free and independent forum for whomever and whatever. As for skype it does work, unfortunately not everybody uses it and it does not work with the already existent im protocols. And this is where meebo.com, imo.im, etc... beat skype hands down. This is truly one of the biggest mistakes yet of microsofts. But hey I hope it works out for them. |
