The link on Steve's story that goes to SJVN's story says the article isn' there. Hmmmmmm. |

That's because there's a extra set of quotes at the end of the link. Delete it, and the article appears. Not that ZDNet had much credibility left, but Gewirtz's article was terrible on a level that's difficult to comprehend. I'm honestly surprised the man knows how to operate a keyboard and mouse. |

I'll fix that link -- thanks for pointing it out. ... fixed now. |

For those of us who suffer with Windows servers (again, yes, servers) and those who admin them, the whole thing baffles me. Sure Linux servers administration could be easier, and there are tools that facilitate that (and there probably should be more, better ones). But Windows as a web server? There are problems aplenty in that solution. Flexibility, reliability and scalability go out the window (pun intended). I deal with fewer Windows servers than I did a few years ago, but those that remain are very far from trouble-free. |

Ive been administering slackware machines since 1998 without a problem and im just a rank amateur don't know what that makes this guy, I certainly wouldn't hire him. |

There are a lot of us who are like that in the Linux community. The difference is that he probably has a certificate hanging on the wall of his cubicle. |

MCSE, They used to give those away in lucky bags when I was a kid. (British term see http://www.thesweetemporium.com/department/kids_party_bags/ for more info) |

@Koriel: That's goodie bags (and maybe party-favor bags) here in the US. I've got a few Lucky bags: in the 80's, Lucky, a SoCal supermarket, sold canvas bags in an early effort to wean consumers from their plastic shopping bag habit; they survived being bungee-corded onto motorcycle saddles quite well. |

IIRC, goodie bags were actually something you could buy from the sweet* shop. I actually can't really remember specifically what was in them, but it was some kind of assortment of sweets, plastic toys and collectors cards I think. ==== * replace the word sweet with "candy" if you're from the US, and "spog" if you're from Yorkshire. We used to have a little local shop called Fags'n'Spogs which is slang for cigarettes and sweets. :D |

Thats nothing in Scotland our fags came in the lucky bags :) Haven't smoked since 2002, yay for me. Edited due to my inability to count using two hands :) |

@Koriel, Quoting:Haven't smoked since 2002, yay for me. My partner, who hasn't smoked for about the same time, says ya for you too. |

> Haven't smoked since 2002, yay for me. Allow me to reiterate the yay. Anyone who can quit smoking deserves all the praise and encouragement they can get. |

@ta, @jdixon -- I don't understand your aversion to smoking. Seriously, throw some brisket over mesquite and let 'er go all day -- that's some good eatin'. |

> I don't understand your aversion to smoking. My wife is extremely sensitive to smoke, Dino. :) |
dinotrac Oct 29, 2011 8:42 AM EDT |
@jdixon -- Not a problem -- Just fire up the smoker on the the back on the far reaches of the ranch. Heck -- that's even better. You can get the beef fresh that way. |

> Just fire up the smoker on the the back on the far reaches of the ranch. While slightly feasible, it's rather difficult to get to those sections of the property, since they're about 45 degree upwards from the house. :) |
