He doesn't do much research,maybe through lack of time or experience,and naturally gravitates to one of the highly publicized distros like Ubuntu. Then starts singing its praises as the solution to Linux useability problems.Unfortunately not aware that he could have at least tried debian-based AVLinux with its handy remastersys LXDE control panel enhancing the base LXDE environment ,debian performance, and 2.59 Blender version available.Or he could have downloaded a binary 2.61 Blender version from blender.org,no compiling needed. I agree the software centre reviews are invaluable to new users and should probabably be duplicated to a universally accessible website,or you could just run a Mint or Ubuntu live CD to log in once in a while to see what's new. |

Ubuntu the solution to Linux usability problems? No, Ubuntu is the creator of Linux usability problems. Linux was much more usable before Unity and Gnome3 came along. |

Gnome3 would have happened with or without Ubuntu. Remember KDE4? |
