I can vouch that heimdall is truly a wonderful piece of free software. After acquiring a Samsung Galaxy S II last month, the tinkerer deep within me couldn't wait to get my own kernel flashed onto it. After reading all of the hoops that Windows users have to go through just to flash their devices (installing Samsung proprietary USB drivers, installing leaked Odin software, making adjustments to Windows firewall, and on and on), I was impressed at how easy it was with heimdall on Linux: Open a terminal, install heimdall, connect phone, type a command. Done. Everything should be this easy. |
