The whole article assumes that everyone runs Windows on the desktop. Moving beyond Windows is defined as using the cloud and consumer devices in addition to Windows. This article is for a Windows world in which another OS, like Linux or Mac OS X, doesn't ever rate a mention. I'm not sure what an article like this is doing on LXer.com.

Wasting bandwidth?

OTOH, there is the ever present argument, "know your enema."

I regularly see the opposite side of that coin.

Our local shop runs a Microsoft-based till system which uses (get this) a mouse and a keyboard. Watching the girl at the till painfully work her way though a dialog of the screen to enter additional information to the scans, ring up the total and enter the amount paid via a keyboard is a task bound to drive anyone to an early grave.

Watching her, I have to wonder who ever thought that this kind of interface was appropriate for use in a shop.

I guess the same kind of person that thinks a touch interface is the right kind of thing for people to use on a desktop-style machines I guess.
