One of the reasons people tell me I should replace my two year old Blackberry (which I'm quite happy with) is that there is somehow a lack of apps, even though I've found apps for just about everything that was important to me. (Disclaimer: I don't play Angry Birds and have no interested in ever doing so.)

Well, the iPhone has more apps, but most of them are never, ever used. Is a choice that nobody makes really a useful choice? I also wonder how many of the plethora of Android apps out there would really be of interest to me. Would I really find wonderful new uses for an Android phone or would I essentially do just what I do now perfectly well with the Blackberry? Methinks probably the latter.

I completely agree. Until you actually go looking for an app to do something and can't find it, while you know it exists on an alternate platform, you're not suffering from a 'lack of apps.' I have a feeling that none of the top several phone platforms genuinely suffers from a lack of apps, including not only iOS and Android, but Blackberry and Windows Phone as well.

It's interesting that ordinary people can't use Linux because there are too many choices, yet an app store with "too many" choices is apparently a great reason the buy an ithingy or an Android device.

Well said, tracyanne. We had another article posted yesterday telling us having a choice of desktops was a bad thing and Linux would have more traction on the desktop if KDE was all there was. Really? Sorry, not buying that one.
