I was talking to a friend of mine who is a network admin. He brought up a good point on this subject. He said they have a linux server and if they have any problems he has to go to a forum and hope he can find someone who has had the problem before. I'm sure DOS / Windwos was like that in the earley stages too. I have been very impressed with the improvments with linux just in the short time I have been using it. I started with Redhat 7 which was pretty easy to bigin with as far as installing it and using what was already there. I think once it becomes more standard to have programs that come with self installers that a lot more people will pick up on it. Most don't like the idea of going from a windows enviroment back to a command line.

Howie,

Support for Linux is available just as it is for Microsoft. Just have your network admin get the support he needs through the vendor he got his Linux from.

I guess maybe he does not know this from the way he talks. Maybe he is just being closed mind about it also.

Or maybe he's new to the industry, or else he works for a small company that can't afford to purchase support and uses the free download version of Red Hat.

No he works for a hospital and they seem to spend the money. I think he just does not like linux so that is as good as excuse as any.

This does not show on my home page under watched threads either.

Support does exist. It's actually a billion dollar industry and is available from IBM, Red Hat, or any other vendor from which you buy your Linux.

Those who use the download version should expect to get the kind of support that is commiserate with what they paid for it. :-)
