I wonder if Forrester took into account the multiplicity of packages available for Linux, versus packages "From Microsoft". Or were they only watching the actual OS. In that case, were there more Kernel problems that took longer to fix than it took Microsoft to release patches for Windows problems? Or if they counted packages, did 1 problem with sendmail, and 1 problem with qmail, count as 2 linux vulnerabilities? Whereas Microsoft only supports 1 mail server, Exchange. Different versions exist for each of the 3, and we haven't even mentioned Postfix and about 20 other mail Open Source mail servers. Seems like it would really be a tough area to make the kind of general arguments they make, and be able to make it stick. |
