A little birthday post, loosely related to Linux and Unix ;)
A Little VCS NFS Gotcha On Solaris 10
We've never seen it before. Hopefully we'll never see it again. :) We're going back to the Solaris 10 Unix well, reaching back a little (as opposed to the 14 month reach-back we did yesterday ;) and adding a little something to our posts on adding NFS management to an existing VCS cluster as well as the follow up on how to do the exact same thing without taking your VCS cluster offline.
The Linux/Unix SysAdmin Covert File Storage Method Number 57
How to, maybe, keep your own compulsions from getting you fired today. This post's trick (actually it's more of a gimmick - or a way any one of us has probably screwed up at some point in time ;) is fairly simple and, as is generally the case, inversely proportionate in complexity to the work I'm currently getting paid to do so my wife, kids and 5 animals don't go hungry.
JumpStart Symlinks And Solaris 10 Unix
Some times, the least convoluted approach is the only one that works. Today's topic covers a little issue I ran into at work (which I actually do from time to time ;) that had me puzzled for a bit. If you're a grizzled Solaris/Slakware veteran like me, some of the newer features of Solaris 10 are pretty much lost on you until you absolutely "need" to understand them ;)
500 Unix/Linux Posts And Still Limping Tall!
Now that we're all rich and famous, this blog is going off the chain. Well, as the title of this post suggests (actually, asserts, unless it's toying with us ;) this marks our 500th post. Even though this is a momentous occasion (which most occassions composed of moments are ;) we're sticking to our guns and staying with the lazy (I mean diversified) format of the standard weekend post by showcasing other sites' humor :)
Linux and Unix Open Source Small Business Humor
MS-bashing? Never... except maybe this one last time. To start it off, we're going back to the well for some of the simple stuff. Although this blog has built a sterling reputation as an online sheltered-community where Linux and Unix aficionados of all skill levels can come and read hundreds of words on a single web page (and not interact with each other at all), we haven't lost touch with our inner children. We're pretty sure they're still at summer camp ;)
Unix and Linux Humor - Inspirational Posters
If these don't get your spirits up, you may be dead inside ;)
Waldo's Been Found In The PI
There is but ONE Waldo in the PI puzzle - Still with no hat ;) Last Friday, we posted a little puzzle we made up entitled "Where's Waldo?" where the objective was to find Waldo amongst the first million digits to the right side of the decimal point in the irrational number PI. Apologies for the picture as my editor couldn't deal with the length of the line and insisted on chopping it up into bits. The numbers were in order, so all that was necessary to get the entire string without spaces was doing simple deletion of all the space characters.
Old School Keyboard Control and HTML Character Entities On Linux And Unix
Two somewhat interesting but unrelated topics. The antibiotics must be kicking in ;) I think the sickness is finally leaving my body (I'm referring to the virus, or whatever I have, and not the mental condition that I fear I'm going to be stuck with until they tag my toe ;), so, in between bouts of feeling like I'm not getting better, I'm cranking out this disjointed post. It's going to be a 2 point post, but there's absolutely no natural flow between the first and second topics.
Adding NFS Management To A VCS Cluster With No Downtime
Adding nfs management to an existing vcs cluster without having to take vcs offline. Today we're following up on yesterday's post regarding adding NFS management to an existing VCS cluster.
Adding NFS Management To An Existing VCS Cluster - Part One
How to add nfs management to an existing VCS cluster with an editor, quickly. Today we're going to take a look at a subject we've covered a bit in the past. If, after reading today's post, you want to things the quick and dirty way, check out our previous post on manually editing the main.cf file.
A Unix/Linux "Where's Waldo?" Or "Who Wants Some PI?"
Waldo's in there somewhere. Can you find him in the pi? I thought I'd finish off this miserable week (lots of work; little sleep) with a puzzle for everyone, like we do from time to time, if you ever want to check out older posts on seemingly random numbers and the M I U puzzle. There are even more that you can find by just searching the index of the blog.

Bash script to find all of your indexed web pages on Google
You've read the book; now see the movie! Oh wait, this is actually a script to find your Google-indexed pages ...forget about that first part ;)
