IBM LinuxONE: Who Needs the Cloud?

IBM has long been a stalwart supporter of, and participant in the Open Source community. So IBM’s announcement of the LinuxONE platform last year should have come as a surprise to no one. The ultimate goal for LinuxONE, however, may be a bit more surprising.

Setup ATA over Ethernet (AoE) on Debian 8 (Initiator and Target)

This tutorial shows you how to setup an AoE client (initiator) and server (target) on Debian 8 /Jessie). The term AoE stands for "ATA over Ethernet" which is a storage area network (SAN) protocol that allows AoE clients to use storage devices on the (remote) AoE server over a normal ethernet network. "Remote" in this case means "inside the same LAN" because AoE is not routable outside a LAN (this is a major difference compared to iSCSI). To the AoE client (initiator), the remote storage looks like a normal, locally-attached hard drive.

Qt v5.6 is Qt’s first “LTS” release since 2011, offers tighter alignment with Yocto Project, and is said to make “Boot to Qt” stack customization easier. The Qt Company released version 5.6 of its cross-platform application and UI development framework, bringing Qt’s “Boot to Qt” embedded Linux platform into greater alignment with Yocto Project tools.

Mini-ITX SBC runs Linux on Braswell, supports triple displays

Aaeon’s EMB-BSW-1 is a Mini-ITX SBC based on Intel’s N3000 “Braswell” SoCs, and featuring triple display support, dual hdmi, dual mini-PCIe, and 12-24V input. Due to the height of the built-in heatsink, Aaeon can’t use the term “thin” for its latest “EMB-BSW-1” industrial Mini-ITX board, but otherwise the board would likely fit that definition.
