Linux can help you appreciate the simple things on your computer

I like Linux because it is stable, secure and cheap. About the only viable objection to running it on your home computer is that it lags behind Windows in available software...My own inclination, at least for initial experiments, is to forget about Windows compatibility and current programs, and use Linux applications as much as possible. You'll find Linux equivalents for most; for example, even though you can't run Kazaa, you'll find Limewire a more than adequate substitute. A useful list you'll find is at Tucows.com. Also note that games, while available, are fairly hopeless and dated.

Linux: Reiser4 FileSystem Stabilizing

Those following the evolution of the Reiser4 filesystem will be interested in learning that it has become "fairly stable for average users", so much so that Namesys is soon planning to push patches to 2.6 kernel maintainer Andrew Morton. Once the two remaining known bugs are fixed, the warnings against using reiser4 on a production system will likely be removed.

Microsoft Disowns "EC-Designed" Windows

"Windows is a state-of-the-art operating system designed for state-of-the-art computers," he said, not the pitiful dumbed-down thing the EC wants to foist on the poor unsuspecting European consumer - and calling it Windows amounts to compulsory licensing of the Windows trademark, a defense that Microsoft is going to use when it appeals the EC's negative antitrust decision to the Court of First Instance in Luxembourg.
