New performance numbers and a patch for RapidDisk (rxdsk) 1.4 to build for 2.6.18
I just finished creating, testing and uploading a patch for the rxdsk 1.4 module to build on 2.6.18 kernels (for those still using Red Hat and CentOS 5.x). Another update is that I posted some new performance data on the performance page.

This may be one of the last patches I release for the 2.6.18 kernel as this may be one of the last releases in the 1.x series of the RapidDisk solution. I am currently focusing most of my time and efforts on the 2.x series which adds a lot of new features and functionality which would make it nearly impossible for me to backport to earlier kernel releases.
Another update is that I posted some new performance data on the performance page: http://rapiddisk.org/index.php?title=Performance
Recently Jens Axboe posted an update to his fio benchmarking utility which is currently used by Fusion I/O to benchmark their Flash-based SSD solutions. It is currently in version 2.0.3 which is what I used for the tests. You can download the utility here: http://freecode.com/projects/fio
It was the first time I had used the utility and it was extremely simple to build, install and use. I was excited to see my module operate as fast as 700 MB/s and on faster hardware as much as 900 MB/s to over 1 GB/s!!! I can only imagine how much faster it would be on newer 64-bit architectures.
Note that I define the I/O profiles under each respective section and compare it to my local magnetic SATA disk drive. |
