Desktop Linux Takes New Path to Reach Consumers Worldwide

SAN DIEGO -- February 24, 2004 -- Major hardware manufacturer Albatron (Taiwan OTC: 5386.TWO) is now shipping select micro-ATX motherboards bundled with LindowsOS 4.5 in an unprecedented move to deliver an easy way for consumers to realize the cost-savings that desktop Linux offers. The new method of putting desktop Linux into consumers' hands by including an operating system at the motherboard level allows builders and resellers to save costs in software licenses and labor, while enabling consumers to easily realize the cost-savings of desktop Linux. Resellers who will be offering the motherboards by early March can be found by country at http://www.lindows.com/albatron.

"Bundling an operating system at the motherboard level circumvents Microsoft's iron lock on OEMs by taking Linux onto a totally different path," said Michael Robertson, chief executive officer of Lindows.com. "Our affiliation with Albatron will save computer manufacturers millions of dollars in software costs, allowing them to aggressively compete for cost-conscious consumers."

Builders and resellers will reap substantial cost-savings by having an operating system bundled with Albatron motherboards. While many have been locked into exclusive contracts to purchase only Microsoft software to sell with their systems, a bundled operating system with hardware will allow them to sell the technology their consumers demand and save operating costs as well. With licenses for Microsoft software running $100-$200 per copy, LindowsOS offers a dramatic cut in licensing fee costs and labor for resellers. Demand for desktop Linux has been explosive, with the benefits of a stable, reliable operating system that features affordability leading LindowsOS alone to be in use in more than 65 countries.

Consumers will also receive the many benefits of desktop Linux, and be able to take advantage of the affordability that LindowsOS offers. Significant costs can be saved by a powerful, robust operating system being included with a motherboard. Whether purchased as an upgrade to an existing system, or as the foundation of a custom-built PC, consumers will benefit from having desktop Linux readily available at no additional cost with the purchase of an Albatron motherboard. White-box PCs, which currently account for 55% of the market, with the Albatron motherboards will also be offered at lower prices with value-inherent LindowsOS.

The Albatron motherboards have been extensively tested with LindowsOS to ensure complete compatibility. LindowsOS 4.5 includes necessities for home, student, and business use. Software includes a complete office suite, full-featured Internet suite, and multimedia capabilities. The operating system also features ease of use and installation, sub-10 minute installations on most computers and auto-hardware detection (Plug & Play) functionality.

Albatron, with a long history of embracing new technology, has turned to desktop Linux to help create the next generation of motherboards. The company is among the leading hardware manufacturers, and traces its roots back to 1984 as Chun Yun Electronics. Priding itself on unsurpassed customer service, Albatron rigorously enforces uncompromising quality control, ensuring a near-zero defect rate, and rapid time to market, utilizing the shortest possible path to deliver quality products.
