rPath’s technology allows agámi Systems to reduce development costs and streamline field maintenance

RALEIGH, NC and SUNNYVALE, CA (October 18, 2006) — rPath, provider of the first platform for creating and maintaining Linux software appliances, today announced that agámi Systems, the leader in live file system replication solutions for network attached storage (NAS) has selected rBuilder and rPath Linux to create its next-generation development and product platform for NAS appliances. agámi Systems will utilize rPath’s technology to automate the company’s extensive build process and field maintenance.

“Due to the complexity and manual effort required to build and maintain our core software, it was critical that we find a solution that would allow us to easily maintain our source code to speed development,” said David Rodgers, vice president of engineering, agámi Systems. “The flexibility, expertise, and technology rPath offers our business made the decision very easy. Using rPath’s technology we will be able to easily manage and maintain our builds, allowing us to significantly reduce our development costs while improving our customer’s experience.”

Building and maintaining the core software stack continues to be a challenge for hardware appliance vendors such as agámi Systems. Historically, these companies have had little choice but to manually create the initial build of the appliance image and to recreate that image each time a new build was needed. rBuilder enables these organizations to automate the entire process from build to maintenance to rolling out updates to deployed units. The rPath platform helps appliance vendors drastically reduce the amount of effort and engineering expense related to building and maintaining their products.

"As more companies convert from paper to digital storage it is important that hardware appliance vendors such as agámi Systems have the ability to easily recreate their builds without having to reinvent the wheel,” said Billy Marshall, rPath founder and CEO. “With the incredible growth of the NAS industry, our technology will enable appliance vendors to save money on engineering and development costs so they can focus on meeting the needs of their growing market.”
