MicroStrategy, a worldwide provider of business intelligence software, has announced that MicroStrategy 8 now offers access to the most popular open source databases -- MySQL and PostgreSQL.

IBM has published the following new technical articles, tutorials, and downloads on its DeveloperWorks website. They cover a range of interesting (though not necessarily embedded) technical topics, primarily related to Linux and open source system development. Some require free registration.

Microsoft’s partnership with SugarCRM and Oracle’s purchase of Sleepycat underscore the rising number of relationships forming between proprietary software giants and open-source companies. The merging of the once separate software worlds reflects mainstream acceptance of open-source software. But some observers and partners wonder if the two worlds are on a collision course.

Massachusetts might have been the FOSS shot heard 'round the world, but California may be quietly building pressure for an open source earthquake of its own. On the face of it, the California Air Resources Board (ARB) is not setting the world on fire with its well-documented adoption of free open source software. Development in the SUSE Linux camp continues to move along at warp speed. The Novell-sponsored OpenSUSE project released its second beta in four days on Friday with OpenSUSE 10.1 Beta 5. The purpose of this release is to smooth out many of the rough edges of Monday's Beta 4 release, the project said.
