Mepis announced Monday that SimplyMEPIS 3.4-1 can be expected within the next week or two! w00t! I've been keeping my eye open for any new releases since my unfortunate cloop error booting experience with 3.3.1. It looks as though 3.3.2 and 3.3.3 were never officially released because of the rapid updates to the Etch pool. This is my quick look at SimplyMEPIS 3.4-1 RC1.

Sun to integrate PostgreSQL into Solaris 10
Sun Microsystems announced on earlier this month that it would begin including the PostgreSQL database with Solaris 10 sometime in the 30 days, and will immediately offer full support for it, as well as fully integrate the software into the operating system over the next several months.

Here's where I go out on a limb, but I think Microsoft's clearest threat still comes from Apple, though not the way most people expect. Yes, Apple is about to take Microsoft to the woodshed when it comes to Internet movie distribution. Open source gains momentum
Experts claim adoption is not a matter of if, but when When Red Hat Inc.'s Tom Rabon was in Malaysia recently, talking with government officials about open-source technology, he was surprised by one of the first questions he was asked by the media there: What's going on with Massachusetts' state government's decision to adopt the OpenDocument format?
