Microsoft Claims Mozilla Firefox Not a Threat to IE
ZDNet Australia is reporting that Microsoft does not believe Mozilla Firefox is a threat to Internet Explorer. Steve Vamos, who heads the software giant's Austrialian operation, does not believe IE's market share is under attack from Firefox. "I'm not sure that that is the reality," he said. "I have seen comments around that but there is nothing I can refer to that really supports that." Vamos admitted that he has never used Firefox.
Windows Media Player sound files 'edited with warez'
PC Welt, the German computer magazine, claims that Microsoft has shipped its popular Windows Media Player with sound files that are edited with an illegal copy of SoundForge, a commercially available Sony program for manipulating audio.

Venezuela's National Assembly (AN) has started a debate on a bill to implement “free software” in government institutions ... the proposal was introduced October 21 by AN deputy Luis Tascon and urges the five independent branches of Government: Executive, Legislative, Judiciary, Moral and Electoral including all official entities to adopt free software as an exclusive working platform via the GNU/Linux operative system.

Ole-Bjørn Tuftedal, the city's chief technology officer, said on Thursday that Bergen has evaluated the cost of running Windows or Linux on IBM Blade servers and found that Linux runs more efficiently.
