Long Term Support vs Rolling Linux Release
Over the years, I've had the opportunity to try a lot of different Linux releases. As the time passed, I found myself gravitating more toward the Ubuntu-based Long Term Release model. Obviously there are advantages and disadvantages to using an LTS distro release. That said, when it comes to current software packages, control and speed – rolling releases are a solid option.
An open source fix leads to a new career in IT
Once upon a time, I was a music production and engineering student at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. I was always a nerd, though, and ended up with a summer job installing computer-aided dispatch systems for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Facebook spied on millenial conversations about money
The writer at Forbes can try to downplay the fact that Facebook spied on private conversations about money by Millenials, but I still find it to be quite awful. And it just goes to show you that you have ZERO privacy on Facebook. Everything you write, click on and read is being watched carefully and recorded.

Remember Netbooks? Windows 10 makes them good again!
Among the many bizarre and stupid mistakes Microsoft made with Windows 8.x was the decision to require screens to have resolution of at least 1024 x 768.
That decision meant that hordes of Netbooks, the very small laptops popular in the late noughties, had no obvious upgrade path from Windows XP to Windows 8.x.
Back in November 2013 I therefore tried to figure out how to extend the life of my own Netbook. Along the way I confirmed that Windows 8 was indeed a terrible idea for Netbooks, especially my Lenovo S10e and its 1024 x 576 screen. That Netbook's been gathering dust since that 2013 story, but a few weeks back I found myself in need of a spare computer to serve as a data mule carrying data to the cloud. Microsoft seemed only too happy to let me upgrade the Netbook to Windows 10, so I gave it a try.

Korora 23 Screencast and Screenshots
The Korora project has released version 23 (code name "Coral") which is now available for download. Existing 23 beta users do not need to re-install, just keep installing regular updates. For the last three months we have been waiting for the RPMFusion repositories to be declared stable before releasing Korora 23. These community packages provide support for things that Fedora doesn't normally ship, like multi-media codecs and proprietary kernel drivers. Normally, the stable RPMFusion repositories are available a few weeks after a Fedora release, however the community has moved to new infrastructure and this has caused some delays.
How to mount qcow2 disk image on Linux
When you run a guest virtual machine (VM) on a hypervisor, you create one or more disk images dedicated to the VM. As a "virtual" disk volume, a disk image represents the content and structure of a storage device (e.g., a hard disk drive or flash drive) attached to the VM. If you want to modify files in a VM's disk image without powering on the VM, you could "mount" the disk image. You then would be able to modify the content of the disk image before unmounting it.
