Four tips to transition your open source project into a viable business
Larger open source frameworks often transition into a business for the maintainers. They serve as consultants, sell commercial licenses, and develop custom features for customers on demand. It’s difficult to expand from geeky early adopters to business-oriented mainstream users. Potential business users need to see that the project has a strong ecosystem, including integrators and consultants who can support customers.

Join Thousands Of Linux Users Asking Google For Native Drive Client Updates
Imagine 15,000 people, all desperately wanting to use your product – so much so that they take time out of their day to sign a petition. That’s the case for Google: a Change.org petition demanding a Linux version of Google Drive is rapidly approaching its goal of 15,000 signatures. Google Drive is two things: the highly anticipated sync service from the web giant, and the name for the web service once called Google Docs. Linux users can currently use Google’s web products without issue, but not the syncing service – there’s no official client for the open source operating system.

Market pressure builds to provide alternatives to costly textbooks
A report issued by the United States Government Accountability Office on June 6 confirms a trend of the educational publishing industry: textbook costs to students at higher education institutions are rising 6% per year on average, and have risen 82% over the last decade. The study, ordered by Congress, looks at the efforts of publishers and colleges to increase the availability of textbook price information and "unbundled" buying options as required under provisions in the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA). The GAO also interviewed faculty regarding benefits of this transparency and offering of new options for students purchasing course materials.

"Ten years ago, open source—notably Linux—was often labelled a ‘fad’ or destined for the ‘hobbyist’ market,” said Mark Bohannon, Vice President for Corporate Affairs & Global Public Policy at Red Hat. "Fast forward to today. How to Set Up a Secure Proxy Server in Ubuntu Linux
Internet security is almost an oxymoron, as a computer connected to the Internet is the least secure of machines. However, many organizations have found ways to protect the internal network from Internet attacks as well as ensure that employees are not violating the Internet use policy. One of those solutions is a proxy server, which sits between the client computer and the Internet, intercepting packets and ensuring a higher level of security for the network than is otherwise possible.
