It is fitted with a new on-board computer, based on the powerful 1.6GHz Intel® AtomTM processor, which is suitable for multi-tasking calculations. This set-up allows the simultaneous reception of two video streams, significantly increasing speed and performance in face-and-object recognition, even under poor-lighting conditions.

Dungeons of Dredmor expansion - Realm of the Diggle Gods!

Me and Bash – The Bourne-Again SHell

Bash has been around since pre-historic times, at least before GNU/Linux’s first release in 1991. In this article I'll present how i used this powerful tool and some of the links I've used to solve some common problems. My first personal encounter with Bash was in 1993. This was two years before Microsoft Windows 95 was released and Windows 3.1 was just a bad joke. The Software Development Company I was working for was using SCO Unix running on i486 systems to power Kiosks for displaying, printing and selling sheet music.

The libbluray project put out its first official release a few weeks ago. This open-source (GNU GPLv2) library is intended to support Blu-Ray disc playback by media players such as VLC and MPlayer. The libbluray 0.21 release is the first from the project and it happened on the 30th of November. This release hasn't been widely publicized and I just happened to know about it this morning from an indirectly-related message on another mailing list. This project was born out of the Doom9 community and has been under development since 2009.

HOWTO: Force Skype to use Alsa on Linux

  • Thoughts on Technology; By Jeff Hoogland (Posted by Jeff91 on Dec 11, 2011 6:44 PM CST)
  • Story Type: Editorial, Tutorial
It seems something I installed recently drug pulse audio in with it as a dependency - this would be fine and dandy except for the fact that my Skype audio (input and output) 100% stopped with the addition of pulse audio to my system. Apparently the authors of Skype (in their infinite wisdom) made it so that if Skype is launched while pulse audio is installed Skype will use pulse (and only pulse) without the option to change back to Alsa...

The idiom 'don't judge a book by its cover' can be extended to 'don't judge a computer game by its graphics'. Whilst the games featured in this article have extremely basic graphics, they have many redeeming qualities beyond evoking fond memories of the early days of computer gaming.

How to run Unity desktop on Linux Mint 12

  • Story Type: Tutorial
The combination of GNOME 3 and MGSE is an attempted to improve on the user-experience of a stock GNOME 3 installation, however, it still leaves the user fighting the desktop just to get things done, and MATE is not yet ready for prime time. While I am not exactly a fan of Ubuntu’s Unity Desktop, I think it presents a better user-experience than GNOME 3 with MGSE. So, this tutorial shows the steps necessary to install and run Unity Desktop on Linux Mint 12.

Announcement: RapidDisk (rxdsk) 1.3.1b Stable release

I just released RapidDisk version 1.3.1b. I added check in the management utility to make sure that rxdsk node is present before archiving and restoring compressed/ decompressed images. This is a very minor update and is mostly for the restoration portion of the utility so we just don’t accidentally create a file named /dev/rxd[x] instead of using an actual rxdsk volume, if that volume is not present on the system.
