Here's my latest video edited in OpenShot -- I refine my technique in organizing tracks

Just because I'm writing about how I'm editing these videos in OpenShot, don't think that I'm some kind of video-editing expert. I'm learning. And I'm excited about it. Beats the alternative, don't you think? In the video I just cut today, I am refining the way I use multiple tracks to organize and edit the video with OpenShot 1.4.0 in Debian Squeeze.

Somewhere along the line, Microsoft went from being the 800-pound gorilla in the browser market to begging users to switch back to Internet Explorer. Now, Microsoft is running a "where's the love?" campaign to offer "free stuff" for users who download IE9. After all these years, hasn't Microsoft learned yet that it can't buy love? Is the company capable of competing on features at all?

Yes, this is (a little) off-topic. But it does concern "Intellectual Property", and bears on other "IP" concerns. And besides, it's from Nina Paley, and it's a comic, on a Friday. So I figured I'd suggest posting this anyways, just for fun.

Ubuntu: time to get rid of the sense of entitlement

One of the big problems that any company faces when it decides to get into the GNU/Linux business is how to deal with users, a group who have an extraordinary sense of entitlement.

I2P - Anonymity for the Masses

For many years people have wanted to protect their right to privacy. As technology changes, it seems that privacy evolves away more and more. I2P is a protocol used for an encrypted multi-proxy on the Internet. While, this sounds simple, there is actually a lot of work going on with I2P to achieve this. Unlike some multi-proxies, I2P will allow you to tunnel many more applications through it than just web browsing, making it a very robust protocol. I2P is available for all platforms, not just Linux. For this example I have used Debian Sid to perform the installation. With the exception of 'apt-get', these instructions should work fine with any Linux distribution.

Littleutils, a Great collection of small utility

  • Linuxaria.com (Posted by linuxaria on Nov 11, 2011 9:42 PM CST)
  • Story Type: Tutorial
I’ve recently discovered another useful package for GNU/Linux, Littleutils. The littleutils include a duplicate file finder (repeats), image optimizers (opt-jpg opt-png opt-gif recomp-jpg), file rename tools (lowercase uppercase), archive recompressors (to-bzip to-7zip to-lzma), a tempfile utility (tempname), all are small programs that do just 1 thing, in a perfect Unix style, so don’t expect anything too complex but these small gems can save you some time to do specific jobs.
