A Space Elevator in less than 7 years
The consensus amongst those of us who think it is even possible to build a space elevator is that it will take more than 20 years. But how can you say how long it will take to do something until you specify how many resources it will require and how many people you’ve assigned to the task?
Six Signs Android really isn't Linux
Many people argue that Android has put Linux into the hands of millions of users. While there is no doubting that Android has been a raging success, I would argue that Google has put Android into the hands of millions of people - not Linux. The following are my reasons for claiming such.
Where is CentOS 6?
From the 'Cloning Takes....Time' files:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL) was officially released in November of 2010. Since then, Red Hat has managed to already push out RHEL 6.1 and migrate a decent book of business to their next generation Linux platform.
With the RHEL 6 release now 8 months past, for those that are looking for a free (as in beer) version of RHEL 6, there has been a key choice that has lagged behind. CentOS which is a clone of RHEL, is still pushing out their version of CentOS 6.
As of Friday July 8th, CentOS 6 became available on some of the mirrors, which means full/final release is soon.
IT'S ABOUT TIME.

AMD Pushes gDEBugger Away From Linux, Mac OS X
gDEBugger, a program developed by Graphic Remedy for debugging, profiling, and analyzing OpenGL (and OpenCL) applications, was a very useful tool for graphics developer. gDEBugger worked with GPUs from all major vendors, is capable of locating graphics pipeline performance bottlenecks, allowed dynamically editing GLSL shaders in real-time, and had many other capabilities. This powerful utility was even made free of charge to Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux users. Graphic Remedy was acquired by AMD last month and already the non-Windows users have been shafted with their OS support being dropped.

If you work with Debian-based systems, you probably know the basics of working with dpkg and APT's tools, but there's much more available. The 7 Best Minecraft Editors and Utilities for Linux
For an independent game with no storyline, no tutorial, and graphics that make Windows 95 look slick, Minecraft has developed an amazing following. Who could have ever predicted that shuffling virtual cubes around could be so fun and so full of possibilities? And if, somehow, you find yourself running out of ideas for your virtual world, many clever folks have come up with tools to improve, extend, and just plain cheat. While there are dozens of such tools out there, not all of them are Linux friendly. Of those, several seem to do the same job. We decided to run through all the Minecraft utilities for Linux we could get our hands on, several from each category, to find out what works and what’s better left to the Creepers.
