1. BETTER MOZILLA ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Featured Extension: Linky

Linky will increase your power to handle links. It will let you open or download all or selected links, image links and even web addresses found in the text in separate or different tabs or windows. You will just need to right click any link or web address, select the Linky menu item and choose the desired action. You can even specify what option you want to see available in the Linky menu through its preferences.

You can get this a very small download (about 30KB) and learn more about it here:

Mozilla Links Tip: Adjust Web Pages Text Size

In Mozilla browsers, you can change the text size of any web page with keyboard shortcuts. To increase the text size press Ctrl and + at the same time. To decrease, press Ctrl and - at the same time. If using a wheel mouse, you can press Ctrl and scroll down to increase or Ctrl and scroll up to decrease. Press Ctrl + 0 (in the main keypad, not in the numeric pad) to restore text to its original size.

(Note: Mac users should use the Command key instead of Ctrl)

Mozilla Links PowerTip: Search With Your Favorite Engine From The Location Bar (contributed by Daniel Wang, edited by Percy Cabello)

You can use the Bookmark Keyword feature to create a shortcut to your favorite search engine, for example, you could just type "g inca" in the Location Bar to start a Google search for "inca" empire. To do this: 1 - Make a search on your favorite search engine (in this example, Google). 2 - When results appear, bookmark the page. 3 - Go to Bookmark Manager. Select the bookmark and press Properties 4 - In the Location text box locate the terms you typed for the search and replace them for %s (in Google it will look like http://www.google.com/search?q=%s). 5 - Set the keyword to your preference (for example "g", without quotes) 6 - Now you can make searches from the location bar just entering the keyword folowed by the search terms!

Mozilla Foundation Donations Now Tax-Deductible ----------------------------------------------- Via an arrangement with the Open Source Applications Foundation, donations to the Mozilla Foundation are now tax-deductible under IRC Section 501(c)(3) of the United States tax code. The Mozilla Foundation does not yet have the required certification for exemption under 501(c)(3) but OSAF does. Essentially, you send your donation to OSAF and they then pass it all on to the Mozilla Foundation.

3. MOZILLA INSIDER ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (contributed by Alex Bishop)

Mozilla Thunderbird, mozilla.org's standalone mail and newsgroups client, will soon have its second milestone release. So-called release candidates, or test versions, of Thunderbird 0.2 can be found in these two dated FTP directories (if there is more than one build available for your operating system, select the newest one): http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/2003-09-01-trunk/ http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/2003-08-26-trunk/

Developer Scott MacGregor has posted information about the release candidates to the MozillaZine Forums: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=169278#169278 http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=173982#173982 http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=177808#177808

The Mozilla Thunderbird Roadmap has more information about future development plans: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/thunderbird/roadmap.html

The version of the ChatZilla IRC client distributed with the Mozilla Application Suite has been upped to 0.9.28 (bug 210744). The program now makes use of parts of the Venkman Application Framework: http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/venkman/techtalk/

Speaking of Venkman, version 0.9.78 of the JavaScript Debugger now ships with the Mozilla Application Suite (bug 216452). Amongst other improvements, this version makes it easier to set and clear breakpoints and fixes the problem where the cursor would be left one character before the end of the line after using the up arrow to recall a previous command.

There are bug fixes for email and newsgroup users too: sending messages with background images now works again (bug 116867 and bug 170504). And users of the Compo
