BasKet: This notes-taking application just might be a killer application for Linux. Some say a single application won't make a person switch from one OS to another, but I disagree. Take all those threads/comments like 'I only dual-boot because of Photoshop or GTA or you name it'. On forums I also read many threads in which the authors say they switched or tried KDE just because they like Amarok or K3b (being the only KDE application they used). Or vice-versa.

Since I've first tried it, BasKet didn't cease to amaze me with its features and functionality. The last version is 1.3.0.1 (for KDE3), but according to their roadmap, plans are to port it to KDE4. It supports global shortcuts, system tray integration, highlighting and embedding images among many others. Official website

Amarok
Development at Amarok 2 is still in progress, but it looks like they are advancing at a fast pace now, and a Beta 1 has been made available on August 22.

For KDE3, the last stable Amarok is 1.4.9.1, which is the greatest audio player in existence if you ask me.

K3b
Easy to use and full-featured, I use K3b all the time for backing up my data or creating ISO images. I just can't find another burning application which impresses me more, although I tried Brasero and Nero. K3b also has an intuitive drag-and-drop way of adding files to a project and it also supports multi-session.

KTorrent
The KDE BitTorrent client, KTorrent has everything I could ask from an application used for torrents. It allows to download only certain files from a torrent, has several useful plugins like the RSS feed plugin or configurable search on torrent sites from inside the application. The stable version for KDE3 is now 2.2.7, and the port for KDE4 is currently at release 3.1.2. You can download the sources from here. Official website

Yakuake
Yakuake is a Quake-style console application, that means it pops up just like the console in Quake (or other FPS games) when you press the global shortcut F12. This one can be changed to your likings. The good thing about Yakuake is that it can use Konsole's settings and it stays hidden until you need it. Official website
