NEW YORK, January 22, 2004 -- The Linux Professional Institute (LPI), (www.lpi.org), the premier professional certification program for the Linux community worldwide, has announced at LinuxWorld Expo & Conference in New York, that it has reached a significant milestone in the certification industry by delivering its 10,000th certificate to Herr Dirk Ebner, of Efringen-Kirchen, Germany.
"Being able to accomplish this within our first four years of testing is a major industry landmark because it now means there is a considerable worldwide certified body of Linux professionals to support integration of a Linux platform within an enterprise environment," says LPI president Evan Leibovitch. "It demonstrates that LPI has increased its industry reputation as the leader in providing standardized, vendor-independent Linux certification worldwide."
LPI started in 1999 as a grassroots organization aimed at removing obstacles to Open Source adoption and increasing the skill level of its community. LPI has since delivered 40,000 exams in almost every country and has gained the support of vendors, trainers, employers and governments.
"Our success is turning the world of IT certification on its ear, just as Linux itself has disrupted the conventional software world," adds Leibovitch. "The industry and the Linux community are now recognizing that our quality and validated, psychometric standards have become the benchmark and certification of choice for many IT professionals as well as the organizations that hire them."
"I am thrilled to be the 10,000th Linux professional to earn my LPIC certification," says Dirk Ebner, System Engineer, LC openX AG -- a Switzerland-based, leading service provider for complete IT solutions on the Linux platform. "I have found the LPI program goes far beyond other certifications and provides a clear way for me test my knowledge of Linux and open source. I look forward to taking my LPI certification to the next level to demonstrate my professionalism."
LPI now supports affiliate networks on all five continents worldwide including Brazil, Bulgaria, the Caribbean, Middle-East, United States, Japan, Canada, Germany, Australia and China, with additional affiliates being developed in Africa.
